An interesting study done by the National Highway Traffic Safety Association studied how much of the fault can be put on the truck driver in either multi-vehicle or single vehicle crashes.

Forty percent of multi-vehicle crashes, were classified as being caused by an error on the part of the truck driver, while 60% were coded as “no driver error.” This does not indicate that 60% were caused by the driver of the car, because a large percentage were caused by other factors, such as equipment failure.
